DAY 1: AREQUIPA – CHIVAY – HOT SPRINGS
7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. Pick up passengers from hotels located in downtown Arequipa.
We will begin our journey to the majestic Colca Canyon, considered one of the deepest and most spectacular canyons in the world. Our destination is the town of Chivay, the capital of the Caylloma province, which we will reach after approximately a 4-hour drive, making several stops along the way.
Our first stop will be at the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we’ll be able to see vicuñas in their natural habitat. We’ll continue on to Patahuasi, where we’ll enjoy traditional coca tea, a drink recommended for alleviating the effects of high altitude.
Next, we will visit the Toccra Wetlands, a high-Andean ecosystem where we will see numerous alpacas grazing freely. We will continue our ascent to the Volcanoes Viewpoint (Patapampa), located at 4,910 meters above sea level—the highest point of the route—from where we will enjoy breathtaking views of the western mountain range and the region’s major volcanoes.
12:30 p.m. Arrival in Chivay and lunch (included or as applicable). We will then head to the hotel to check in and rest.
In the afternoon, the guide will take you to the La Calera Hot Springs, where you can enjoy the relaxing thermal-medicinal waters for about an hour. After the visit, we’ll return to the hotel, and you’ll have free time to explore the town or relax.
In the evening, you can enjoy dinner (at your own expense) accompanied by a folkloric show featuring traditional dances from the Colca Valley.
I'll spend the night in Chivay.
DAY 2: CRUZ DEL CÓNDOR – CHIVAY – AREQUIPA
Breakfast at the hotel.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the famous Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, located about 30 minutes from Chivay. This is the main vantage point for viewing the Colca Canyon and the impressive flight of the Andean condor. We’ll stay for about 45 minutes to enjoy this magnificent natural spectacle and admire the depth of the canyon.
On the way back, we’ll stop at the El Molino Lookout, where we’ll take part in a unique cultural experience. We’ll have the chance to learn about local customs, make a traditional offering to Pachamama, try on traditional costumes, taste traditional chicha, and admire the valley’s impressive terraced fields.
We will continue on to the town of Maca, where we will visit its historic colonial church and picturesque main square. Optionally, you can sample traditional local drinks, such as the famous Colca Sour, made with local ingredients.
12:00 p.m. Lunch in Chivay (at the passenger's expense).
1:00 p.m. We will begin our return trip to the city of Arequipa. Depending on weather conditions and the time available, we will make additional stops at attractions we were unable to visit on the way there.
5:00 p.m. Arrival in Arequipa. We will conclude the tour by dropping passengers off near the Plaza de Armas.
